I live on the Northern Beaches and absolutely love being outside and in the Ocean as much as possible.
I practice yoga. I cycle. I swim. I try to live a sustainable life (this is not always easy!! But we just gotta do what we can right?). I believe in living a balanced life, in all aspects of life- diet, exercise, push & rest, work & play.
Maintaining balance is what keeps me grounded, calm and sane!
Don’t get me wrong, keeping my calm feet firmly grounded is sometimes hard! It’s so easy to get caught up in life’s whirlwinds right? Just gotta do our best and not beat ourselves up when balance goes walkabout 😉
I am a qualified Remedial Massage Therapist and Yin Yoga Teacher. I have been a Massage Therapist for almost nine years and have been working with Yin Yoga techniques for almost two years. There are so many things that I love about my work!! BUT if I had to give you just two reasons they would be:
1. Education – There’s more to my job then giving you a massage every 2-4 weeks and sending you on your way. Together we come up with personalised solutions- homework/baths/heat-packs/different work habits etc. – to prevent recurring areas of tension, to minimise stress levels, to create space & ease of movement in your joints and to minimise the occurrence of injuries. My intention is to help you create and maintain a healthy, happy body and life.
2. Providing a space for you where you can leave Your World at the door (just for an hour or so). I strongly believe if we want balance and harmony in our lives we must stop, take a break from the “real world” and nurture ourselves. And so, as soon as you step foot into the treatment room, there is nothing but you! Time to switch off, relax and allow your body to receive what it needs to receive.
There truly is nothing else I’d rather do! And I just want to share my knowledge and handy tips with all who will listen
I often get asked what ‘type’ of massage I do and to be honest, I always find this question quite tricky to answer…… But here goes….. I have a Diploma in Remedial Massage which is generally a more focused treatment on a specific area of pain and tension. It gets to the bottom of the problem area and ‘fixes’ it. It finds the source and remedies it.
My little Remedial Toolbox is full of various remedies and techniques! You’ll find deep tissue, relaxation, lymphatic drainage, pre and post natal, myofascial and hot stone tools, tricks and goodies!! But the most important tool I own are my hands. They do all the work. I simply follow.
So when it comes to a treatment it may include two – three techniques or maybe it will be pure relaxation or just lymphatic drainage…. who knows…. it will all depend on what your body needs on the day.
One thing is for certain though – my intention is to always maintain a sense of calmness and relaxation within your body. Even if you need a little bit of deeper work on your shoulders or your hamstrings need a good ironing out, you shall remain in a blissful state.
I LOVE Yin Yoga! I love practising it and I love sharing it! It is a beautifully slow and nurturing style of Yoga. It is a deep and powerful practice that is suitable for everyone, even if you have never tried yoga before.
It focuses on your hips, pelvis and spine working deep into your joints creating and maintaining space, freedom and health. Our joints are parts of our bodies that give us stability and govern how easily we move YET parts of our bodies that are often neglected.
We’re working with ligaments, tendons, fascia and bones- our yin tissues- which are quite dense tissues and don’t like to be moved quickly, or pushed or forced in any way. They need time and patience to yield and lengthen. Which is why we work slowly and gently, holding poses for 3-5mins, and allowing our bodies to guide us where to go. It really is an amazing practice and it will loosen the ‘grip’ in your hips and your spine, allowing you to move more freely and easily.
NOW, put these two together. Massage & Yin Yoga and you get Yin Massage. This is my passion. This is what I’m all about. This is a treatment for everybody. A treatment that gives your entire body attention and release. A treatment that gives your entire body rest and relaxation.
Starting with personalised, one-on-one Yin Yoga to work deep into your joints and ‘loosen the grip’. Followed by a massage to relax and ease tight and tired muscles.
There are three words that sum up Yin Massage perfectly……….Absolute full-being nurturing!
This is who I am and this is what I do (in a nutshell)
